Dude, I'm gonna be honest and say there is so much working against this.
Lets begin with death/fic; no, no, and no. Don't like em. Don't read em. What was it, two sentences into the summary and Sam was dead? Just, no. Strike number one.
Strike two really parallels strike one with the whole ghost thing. Oh man, I've wanted to find authors and beat the living shit out of them in response to the few I've read. It's just not done well. So yeah, strike number two.
Now, you couldn't possibly have known this, but I'm a pretty conservative girl when it comes to my incestuous gay porn. I don't like my boys with other people. Ever. You, my friend, are on a roll; strike three.
So, obviously, there was no way I was going to enjoy this. Not a chance in hell. Why even begin reading. when I'm just gonna get pissed off and have to instigate a bothersome manhunt in order to find and hurt you. Right? Right?
Sweet Baby Jesus, I was wrong! So wrong. Very, very wrong. Forgive me. Please. What's my penance? Seriously, I don't even know why I started reading it. I would normally pass this over without a second glance. And I would have missed out on what is, in all likelihood, my favorite new fic.
Where to begin? John allowing Sam to have a birthday party. Dean's panic and desperation. John and Dean's difficulty being together because of their grief. While there weren't a lot of words to describe Sam's frustration and determination in making Dean see him, I could feel it. The bit of Victor's history we were able to see. Dean's feelings for Victor made so obvious when Sam talks about Dean no longer picking up random people. And let me drop to my lowest, base level with this next one. When grown up Sammy came back? Yeah, I lost my shit.
There's so much more I love about this, but I think I've had my fangirl moment for the day. So let me end with this: it's beautiful. Thank you.
