Dean didn't want to give him hope. Because he doesn't know if there is any. So painful, but so true. Sam did betray Dean. Big time. But Dean won't hurt Sam any more than he has to and he won't let him starve. This situation with them is killing me and you did a brilliant job of giving us what the show so rarely does. Insight into what they are thinking.
