I am seriously teared up right now. I love that Dean took a moment to get that Sam might not expect to be fed. No wonder Dean can't tell Sam what to do or say to make it better. Sam's instinct for atonement tells him to give up what he loves most, and that's Dean; Dean thinks that giving him up is what Sam did wrong in the first place, and he thinks that means that he's not what Sam loves most. They can hardly breathe without hurting each other.
